BADLY NEED COMPUTER HARDWARE HELP! ASAP! PLEASE?
I just tried to install two hard drives into my computer with the intent of raiding them. On first boot-up, things were going smoothly until the computer just shut down just as I was about to enter the BIOS. Now, the computer won’t even start. Here’s what I do: (1) I turn off the power supply and turn it back on. (2) I hit the power button. The motherboard shows a blue light. (3) I hit the power button. You can hear a small spurt of power go into the computer. Computer does not boot. (4) Instead of just a blue light, there is now an orange light that comes on. A green light shows up, but then goes away. (5) I continue to try to hit the power button again, but nothing else happens. No spurt sound of power, no change in blue/orange/green lights.
I just ran out to try to buy a new power supply, but that was not the answer. Any ideas anyone?? Thank you for your help!
Hardware:
EVGA 680i motherboard
Thermaltake black widow 850W power supply
Intel Q6600 quad processor
EVGA 8800 GT graphics card
4GB DDR2 RAM
Hard Drives: 1x 500gb, 1x 1TB, 2x 1.5TB
I now only have the primary hard drive with the OS hooked to the motherboard, which is the 500gb HD. Same problem.
smgray99 and Mark, I’ve tried your ideas as well, but I get nothing. Maybe the motherboard is fried somehow??
SOLUTION HAS BEEN FOUND. For anyone that has a similar problem, this is what happened to me:
Most of the forums I have found mentioned that it was likely the power supply. While I bought a new power supply, I still experienced the same problem. Eventually, through my multiple attempts at solving it, I began seeing smoke arise from one of my hard drives. It turns out that the power cord connecting the hard drives and power supply was faulty. Once that was replaced, everything worked.
NEW DETAIL: I was wrong. It’s the power supply. I took out what I thought was the faulty cord that caused the smoking, then the power supply began causing other cords to smoke. I’ll have to buy a new one.
