How does static electricity affect the hardware?

Ok. I just got my new PC hardware. First, here are the specs:
-nVidia eVGA 9600 GT Super-clocked 512MB Edition
-Core 2 duo E7200 2.53 GHZ (No OCing until new mobo
-D946GZIS Intel Motherboard
-3 Gigs of 667 Ram (Soon to be 4Gigs 1066 on New Mobo)

Anyway, When I play games such as Oblivion, or Garry’s Mod (Half Life 2), It all of the sudden goes pitch black (screen) and the computer fans start spinning loudly, and fast. The sound still works but the visuals are gone.

I have Crysis and play it everything High 1360 X 768 (LCD TV) at around average 45-50 FPS.

It only crashes like this on Oblivion and Garry’s Mod. Oh and Oblivion runs at a steady 60 FPS at Maximum settings, but all of the sudden drops to 20 or chugs for no reason.

Please help.

Yeah, I check temp. They are fine. Even My hardware is pretty well ventilated, so I don’t see that as a problem.

Oh, at Max load, it runs below 50C celsius. Never goes higher. Is that and ok temp? oh and my CPU etc are fine with cooling as well.

I have drivers for everything as new as possible, newest game patches and I have 450 Watt 2 12volt rails with output of 30 amps or w/e. This graphics card asks for 400 watt assuming sully loaded compter. When I only have Graphics card, ram, CPU and 1 HDD. My SOund etc, is internal.
