computer hardware
phinox_of_ice asked:

here’s the cycle of what my computer does:
1. i turn it on (works)
2. i log in (works)
3. my computer completely freezes after about 5 minutes.
4. i turn off my computer
5. i turn it back on
6. only the light comes on and it blinks off then on after about 10 seconds… no more blinking after that. disc drive, fan, and keyboard starts. laser mouse lights up. USB devices light up BUT monitor wont start.
7. wait 20-30 minutes and return to step 1.

Ive tried unplugging it and system restore. no success…
i tried disconnecting the hard drive after it wouldn’t start… still wont start…
i really doubt its my monitor…
I’ve booted it without the cover…
i made a new user in safe mode and even with that new user, the same thing happens.
fan runs just fine the whole time.

i have windows vista, home edition, SP1, without internet.

Hardware info: http://www.review2.net/desktops/emachines-et1161-07

i booted into BIOS settings and went to computer health. all USB devices were disconnected. here are the details.

CPU Vcore: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1.20V
Voltage battery: . . . . . . . . . . . 3.05V
VDIMM: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .1.77V
Computer Tcontrol: . . . . . . . . 40C
Current SYSTEM temperature: 35C
fan speed: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1551 RPM

when i was done copying this i discovered that the computer was frozen (again).
i took out 2 of my 3 ram chips and it seems to have solved the problem (i have yet to find out which one). What went wrong with my ram chip? if it was my fault, how can i keep from breaking more ram in the future?
